My name is Suzanne and I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Coventry. I have been working therapeutically with clients for 20 years. In an initial free conversation, you will be able to share what has brought you to counselling and see how we might work together. My counselling experience includes; emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, bereavement and loss, self-destructive and self-defeating behaviours, adverse childhood experiences, attachments, depression and anxiety. I have particularly extensive experience in working with sex and pornography addiction, and those who seek to understand their sexual offending. I have had the benefit of working in placements, and in private practice.
My approach to counselling is integrative which means I use various modalities when working with you. I will support you to explore what your therapeutic goals are, and the thoughts or behaviours which are a cause for concern. We can explore the origins of these and the perpetuating factors. We can consider patterns and cycles of behaviour, whilst developing strategies to reach your therapeutic goals.
I will never underestimate the courage it takes for a person to recognise they need support. These difficulties can be sensitive issues and ones that all sorts of emotions are attached. I understand that and so I can listen to you and provide a non-judgemental space so you can feel heard and understood. In many cases, I find incorporating psychoeducational work into relevant sessions, can be helpful for the client.
I believe that you are the authority of you, and in that, I will not tell you what to do and how to do it, but together, you can start that road to recovery. This is a journey, this is your journey.
