Diploma in Working with Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD) and Sex Addiction
(Accredited at level 5 by CPCAB and by COSRT as a level 5 thematic training course)
Course Directors: Paula Hall & Nick Turner
Course information:
The course is based on three modules, each of which takes place over four days. Each day runs from 9.30am – 5.00pm. The course provides all the tools to assess and work with CSBD and sex and porn addiction from a BioPsychoSocial perspective.
Training Modules:
Module 1 – Introduction to Working with CSBD and Sex Addiction
This module provides all the information and skills required to work with people presenting with CSBD and sex and pornography addiction. It has been designed to equip therapists who already have experience of working in other addictions to work confidently and competently with CSBD and sex and pornography addiction. In addition, therapists from other fields will develop sufficient skills to work with non-complex cases of sex addiction (e.g. Level 1 Relate).
Module 2 – Working with Contexts and Underlying Issues
This module provides an understanding of how trauma and attachment issues may be blocking recovery. The module also enhances an understanding of the implications of working with clients who present with other addictions, underlying mental health problems, paraphilias or a history of offending behaviours. Module 2 also provides all the necessary information and skills required to work confidently and competently with partners to help them recover from the trauma of discovering CSBD and sex addiction and establish stability and hope for the future. Students will develop a greater understanding of the impact on the couple relationship when working with people with CSBD and sex addiction.
Module 3 – Maintaining Recovery and Beyond
The Diploma in Sex Addiction Counselling concludes with four days dedicated to exploring how clients may be supported by a range of modalities including (but not limited to) creative techniques, Mindfulness, MI (Motivational Interviewing), PST (Psychosexual Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and hypnotherapy. Students will also be introduced to Positive Psychology as a means of helping clients establish, and stay in, recovery. The role of group work, the 12 steps and the essentials for after care will also be covered.
All training is currently being delivered online.
