Get the most out of your supervision and get what you need.
Everyone needs a supervisor. It is essential to sustain good practice throughout your counselling life no matter how long you have been practicing.
Supervision needs to be something you enjoy; where you can take your whole self, be honest and discuss perceived weaknesses and where you can freely and openly reflect in-depth on all aspects of your work to be effective, safe and ethical.
In starting as supervisor for Relate couple and family counsellors and then BACP Senior Accred Supervisor in 2007, I have a wide range of supervisees in private practice in sex and porn addiction and both trainees from the Laurel Centre and other providers and those qualified a number of years. I competed my Certificate in sex addiction from ATSAC in 2012 having being trained by Thaddeus Birchard and Paula Hall.
I qualified to ACTO Level 2 during the pandemic for online work and am on their professional register and offer supervision around the UK and Ireland via phone and video platform.
I believe in getting the most from your supervision and I need it just as much now as I did when I first set out almost 30 years ago!
